Piano Work

Every music educator has to know the basics of playing the piano, and that is especially true for music educators who focus on choir. Because of this, Westminster music educators are trained to play the piano at a very high level no matter your primary instrument. This page will highlight Sam's ability and proficiency at playing the piano.

While taking piano classes at Westminster, students including Sam prepare and play piano pieces for their class and for their piano hearing, which is necessary to move forward in the program. Here, Sam performs one of his prepared piano pieces, Beethoven's "Sonatina in G Major".

Vocal warm-ups are one of the most important fundamentals a voice-based music educator needs to have ready to play. In this video, Sam shows his proficiency in using the piano for vocal warm-ups, whether that be for choirs or for warming up individual students during lessons.

Similarly to the vocal warm-ups, every music educator needs to be able to plunk out individual parts of music in order to adequately teach their students. Here Sam highlights this skill by playing each individual line of a choir piece, "Adoramus Te" by Palestrina.

While teaching high school choir classes in the Central Bucks school district of Pennsylvania, Sam had to use his piano skills every day while teaching. Here is one of many videos of Sam warming up his students with multiple warm ups.
